Under 10 indoor Kwik Cricket festivals

Tim Hart writes, “As a continuation of the pilot programme from late 2017, another series of Under 10 indoor Kwik Cricket festivals will be running in the west region. Festivals will take place during February and March – and each festival will follow a round-robin format, as follows:


Sundays 18 and 25 February, and 4, 11, 18 and 25 March

10am to 12 noon

Hillpark Secondary School, Glasgow (G43 2XA)


“Six players per team.  Six overs per side, everyone bowls one over, batters bat in pairs for two overs.  Entry Fee: £15 per team per festival (to contribute towards the cost of hiring the hall).  Teams are unlikely to play every week (once entries are confirmed a match schedule will be issued).  To enter a team into this series of festivals, please email a completed booking form to me. Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. The closing date for returning a completed entry form is 12 noon on Friday the 9th of February 2018.”

Tim Hart writes, “Following on from last week’s email about the Women and Girls’ Forum, please find details about another exciting Forum which Cricket Scotland is hosting. This one is our Club Forum – and the event is all about how we can develop #muchmorethancricket and how cricket clubs can become a central part of the local community.  Please find full details, including the registration link, below.  If you have any queries about the forum, please contact Ian Sandbrook (07584-232795).”

Ian Sandbrook writes, “If cricket and our clubs are to grow, they have to become much more than places where people ‘just play their cricket’ and compete in a league. They have to play a bigger part in the lives of local people and communities and become fun and social destinations.  In the current climate, sport is increasingly being asked to deliver ‘sport for change’ and real community benefits. So, the more cricket can show that it’s not just played by some ‘diehards’ but embraces new communities, formats, and ways of delivering; the more players, partners and funding we can attract.

“This event is all about how we can develop #muchmorethancricket and how cricket clubs can become a central part of the local community.  This is not just a conference. It is a forum which focuses on best practice and provides thoughts, tools and to-dos. Real stories and successes to be told, lessons to be learnt, ideas and experiences to be shared on how to grow cricket.”

West women’s and girls’ forum

Rosy Ryan, Cricket Scotland‘s Women and Girls’ Development Officer West, writes, “Due to a successful 2017 – I am happy to announce that we will be hosting a women’s and girls’ forum on Saturday the 3rd of March, at Uddingston CC‘s Bothwell Castle Policies between 11am and 1pm.  This is an open invitation to all clubs in the west who are interested in starting up a women’s and girls’ section, or those who are continually growing theirs. It is extremely important to come along to this event as we will be establishing women’s and girls’ hubs across the west.  Cricket Scotland has acknowledged that there is a growing interest in clubs to further develop. It would be fantastic to see the majority of clubs who are serious about this opportunity. This includes clubs that already have a women’s and girls’ section. Clubs who are not able to come will miss out on this chance.  Please bring along some representatives from your club and see what 2018 has in store for you!  If you would be able to confirm your attendance and attendee’s no later than Monday the 5th of February.  Further information will follow.  Feel free to circulate this information around your club.”

Cricket Scotland junior cricket roadshow

Tim Hart, Cricket Scotland‘s West Regional Participation Manager, writes, “Just a quick reminder of the exciting ‘Junior cricket roadshows’ which are happening later in November – and a thanks to the clubs who have already confirmed their attendance.  Some of our participation team were fortunate enough to be at Lord’s earlier this week to hear about some of the impact ‘All Stars Cricket‘ has had in other parts of the UK and to learn a bit more about what year two will look like – and we look forward to being able to share some of this information with you.  We are also sure that the ‘Junior cricket format’ proposals will stimulate a lot of thought and discussion. We are really keen that clubs try and bring along their age group lead coaches/team managers, etc. so we can get the opinions of those coaching ‘week in, week out’. Please could you make sure that these people are aware of the west region roadshow – at Shawholm (Poloc CC) on Sunday the 19th of November, at 3pm – and could you encourage them to make time to come along.  Finally, could you please complete the registration process for your club and any of your coaches who wish to join us at one of the roadshows.”
