Clydesdale CC win WDJCU Under 12 Super 8s, 2019

Clydesdale CC have won the WDJCU Under 12 Super 8s, 2019.

The group stages, on Sunday the 29th of December, saw Clydesdale CC win Group A and Glasgow Accies CC win Group B – with Ferguslie CC having the best net run rate of the runners-up and also progressing to the Final Group.  There were impressive individual performances from Clydesdale CC’s Bilal Ahmed (3 for 11) and Aaban Rashid (3-1-8-2), East Kilbride CC’s Yash Bajaj (22*, retired) and Ewan Mann (2 for 7), East Renfrewshire CC’s Muriam Ashraf (2 for 14), East Renfrewshire team II’s Yousaf Asrar (21*, retired), Ferguslie CC’s Jamie Rennie (43* and 22*, retired), Glasgow Accies CC’s Ramsay Brown (21*, retired), Dhruva Duggireddy (20*, retired), Ekaansh Kapila (2/9), Shaan Suvarna (26*, retired, and 2 for 12) and Pranav Walkay (21*, retired)

The final group took place in the morning on Monday the 30th of December.  Glasgow Accies CC won the toss and elected to bat first versus Clydesdale CC.  However, Clydesdale’s Ibrahim Khan took 2 for 2 in the second over and the momentum stayed with the Crossmyloof youngsters – Glasgow Accies 30 all out, with Clydesdale completing a seven-wicket win.  Game two saw Ferguslie CC have no answers to the Glasgow Accies opening bowlers (Kapila taking 2 for 10 and Suvarna 3 for 7), as Ferguslie were bowled out for 39 – before the Anniesland youngsters completed an eight-wicket win.  These results meant that Clydesdale just needed to avoid a huge defeat to win the title, in the final match of the competition.  They batted first and scored 110 for 3 off their ten overs – Innes Algie (16), Ben Atkinson (19), Khan (21*, retired) and Rashid (20*, retired) all making big contributions.  Khan then continued his “man of the match” effort, by taking 2 for 4, as Ferguslie finished 50 for 5 in reply – with Jamie Rennie (15) again being the mainstay of the reply from the Paisley youngsters.

Congratulations to Clydesdale on their victory – and to Ibrahim Khan (Clydesdale CC) who won a very tight contest for “Player of the Tournament”, just beating his teammate Aaban Rashid, Ferguslie CC’s Jamie Rennie and Glasgow Accies CC duo Ekaansh Kapila and Shaan Suvarna.
