Clydesdale CC won the 2018 Under 16 Frank Smith Trophy this evening, following a 62-run victory over Glasgow Accies CC at Titwood on Glasgow’s southside. Batting first, Clydesdale scored 131 for 6 off their 20 overs. Their innings was based around an outstanding, and match-winning, innings of 76* (71 deliveries) from David Sturgess, with Struan Walker (29 off twenty deliveries) providing excellent support, during a key 56-run partnership for the third wicket. For Glasgow Accies CC, Sambhav Chadha, John Greene and Andrew Robinson all took one wicket.
In reply, very controlled opening spells from Taha Khan and Junaid Rauf (4-0-5-2 and 4-1-8-1 respectively) meant that Glasgow Accies CC were quickly well behind the required run-rate. Despite 30* from John Greene, they would only finish on 69 for 6 from their 20 overs – Clydesdale CC skipper Daniel Cairns helped to keep the squeeze on the scoring with figures of 4-0-9-0, with support coming from Faizan Rauf and Tarun Koteeswaran who both took wickets.
Congratulations to Clydesdale CC on their victory.
