Tim Hart reports, “Thursday saw two ties take place in the Cricket Scotland National Secondary Schools Cup. At Titwood (Clydesdale CC), Holyrood Secondary School hosted Wellington School. In a high scoring match, Holyrood scored 178 for 6 from their twenty overs. Their effort was led by a superb 128 (off 77 deliveries) from Asad Khan (Clydesdale CC) who was playing on his home ground and this was despite Hamish Simpson (Ayr CC) taking 3 for 22 from his four overs. In reply, 45 from Josh Martin and 43 from his Ayr CC teammate Richie Simpson, kept Wellington School near to the required run-rate – but they would finish just short, on 169 for 5.
“Meanwhile, at Shawholm (Poloc CC), Eastwood High School were hosting Hutchesons’ Grammar School. Hutchesons’ Grammar School batted first and scored 122 all out, largely thanks to a twelve-ball 35 from Struan Walker (Clydesdale CC). For Eastwood High School, Gautam Kakar took 4 for 9. Kakar then carried his good form into the reply where he top scored with 43. However, with Zakki Tariq (Clydesdale CC) taking 3 for 4 and Walker taking 3 for 11, Eastwood High School would finish on 104 for 9 off their twenty overs. Congratulations to both Holyrood Secondary School and Hutchesons’ Grammar School who progress to the next round – and commiserations to Eastwood High School and Wellington School who helped contribute towards two excellent matches.”
