U12 League Finals’ Day, 2019

Clydesdale CC are U12 League Winners

Whitehaugh (Kelburne CC) was the host venue for the WDJCU U12 League Finals’ Day.  There were two scheduled semi-finals (Group A winners v Group B runners-up and Group B winners v Group A runners-up).

Unfortunately, the Group A winners were not able to field a side due to school commitments, so Kilmarnock CC progressed to the final.  In the second semi-final, Clydesdale CC played Uddingston CC.  Clydesdale batted first and score 150 runs, led Fizan Rashid (21*) and supported by Samuel Hargie (15*) and Shlok Thaker (15) – with Josh Birch taking two wickets (2 for 14) for Uddingston.  In reply, Keerat Singh scored 23 but spinners Hargie (3 for 7) and Abhi Reddy (2 for 7) helped to ensure that Clydesdale completed a good win – with Uddingston scoring 71 runs.  With the bonuses added on for taking wickets, the final result was Clydesdale 182 beat Uddingston 83 by 99 runs.

In the final Kilmarnock CC batted first, but they were immediately under some pressure from a relentless Clydesdale bowling attack.  Seven of the eight bowlers took wickets, led by Alexander Ferguson (4 for 4), Rashid (3 for 14), Thaker (2 for 3) and Zayd Khan (2 for 8), as Kilmarnock finished on 38 runs.  In reply, Rashid (36*), Thaker (32) and Ben Moulson (28) all scored heavily as Clydesdale scored 172 runs – despite Ruari Mavin’s impressive spell of 3-0-6-1.  The final score: Kilmarnock 46 lost to Clydesdale 236 by 190 runs.

Congratulations to Clydesdale CC on their win – and special thanks to the Kelburne CC groundstaff, the umpires (Colin McLardie and Gregg Watson) and all the players, coaches and spectators.
