Clydesdale CC Under 18s (pictured) were crowned 2017 Scottish Cup winners today, after the held-over second part of last season’s Finals Day was successfully completed at The Grange. After chasing 160 to defeat Forfarshire CC in the second of the semi-finals, the Titwood youngsters then faced Edinburgh club Carlton CC in the final, Carlton CC having beaten Poloc CC in their semi-final, ironically at Titwood, at the end of last season. Again bowling first, Clydesdale CC restricted their opponents to 142, meaning that they’d need 143 to secure the win. And at 73 for 4, the match was in the balance. However an unbroken 35-run partnership saw the total progress to 108 for 4 after fifteen overs, meaning that 35 were needed from the final five overs. A fifth wicket would then fall with the score on 117, and the game came down to a final over showdown: Clydesdale CC needing 5 runs for the win. Three balls in and 3 runs were still needed, with the Edinburgh side having grabbed another wicket courtesy of a run out. But Clydesdale CC wouldn’t be denied, and a boundary secured their win. Congratulations to the Crossmyloof club’s youngsters and coaches on their success.
