David Hinchliffe reports, “The Western Warriors Under 16s took on touring side, CSE Dubai, at Kelburne on the 8th of August. The visitors recorded a comfortable five-wicket victory in the T20 match. Batting first, the Warriors made a strong start with 40 runs in the power-play. Richie Simpson (Ayr CC) led the charge with 37, 14 in his first seven balls. However, CSE Dubai turned to spinners, using the conditions well. This slowed the rate and the Warriors were 82 for 4 from fifteen overs. Some aggressive late inning batting (17*) from Donald Obre (Uddingston CC) helped the final score to 108 for 6.
“CSE Dubai replied with an aggressive start, scoring 17 from the first over. Jonny Chalmers (Glasgow Accies CC) took a key wicket in the second over, finishing with 1 for 6 from two overs. Debutant Junaid Rauf (Clydesdale CC) took pace off the ball, keeping the Warriors in the hunt with 2 for 27. At 36 for 3, CSE were wobbling.
“Unfortunately, three dropped catches then combined with a composed innings of 48* from Wasi Shah for CSE. For the Warriors, Tarun Koteeswaran (Clydesdale CC) bowled a tight spell with 1 for 11 at 3.3 runs per over. But it was not enough as the visitors got over the line in the seventeenth over, five wickets down.
“Western Warriors Under 16s 108 for 6 (20 overs). CSE Dubai 109 for 5 (16.3 overs). CSE Dubai win by five wickets.
