This will be the new email for all WDJCU communications. Please save this in your contacts.
Please find attached the final fixtures.
The Committee apologies to clubs for the late changes, however we know that all of you will appreciate the need to allow full participation. This is the philosophy we have followed in allowing further late entries.
As a result of the new changes which are in only U12SB (2 new clubs added) and U14 fixtures (change to fixtures). Please understand some clubs may have more home or away matches.
The really promising outcome of the new fixtures shows that from those clubs entering the junior competitions only two of them have not entered the U12SB league. 20 teams have entered.
The junior fixtures will be on the new CS Live system. We will be in touch to advise on results submission.
I thank you all for your patience and a rain-free 2022 season.

Today saw the Western Warriors under 15s host XL Club (Scotland) in a time game, at Titwood (Clydesdale CC).
Batting first, XL Club got off to a good start – but 38/0 became 47/2, with Ewan McCartney (Helensburgh CC) bowling an excellent delivery to remove Hillyard and skipper Shlok Thaker (Clydesdale CC) having his opposite number caught. From there, the Warriors were given a good lesson in the value of building multiple partnerships back-to-back-to-back while batting. However, some good bowling and fielding immediately after lunch saw the scoring rate slowed – with McCartney picking up a second wicket, Qasim Khan (Ferguslie CC) taking one and Adam Tahir (Ferguslie CC) also taking one thanks to a remarkable stumping from Ritvik Maheshwari (Glasgow Accies CC) who was standing back! XL Club did accelerate slightly – before declaring on 195/6 off 56 overs.
In reply, the Warriors top order will feel a little disappointed with their early efforts – with two injudicious shots, and an unnecessary run out, leaving the score at 15/3. Max Byers (Dumfries CC) and Thaker re-built slightly but 34/3 then became 47/5 – and an early finish looked possible. However, Fizan Rashid (Clydesdale CC) and Nasratullah Safi (Glasgow Accies CC) had other ideas. Both rotated the strike well and put away the odd bad delivery. The 50 partnership came and went trouble free – and the 72-run partnership was comfortably the highest of the match. Just as thoughts were beginning to turn to a run chase, Safi played one expansive shot too many and was caught at cover, for 38. Another mini-partnership developed – but 135/6 became 142/8, including the dismissal of Rashid for an excellent 45 (matching Maddock who had top scored for XL Club in the first innings). With the focus turning to playing out for the draw, McCartney and Tahir decided to have one final push for the win. 5 overs brought 39 runs, led by Tahir’s 26 – but he fell LBW with one over to go! McCartney played out the final over to secure the draw – with only 10 runs separating the teams at the end of 96 overs of cricket.
A great game, with lots of valuable learning opportunities – and the experience of being in a game where all 4 results were possible going into the last 3 overs, while getting an exemplary showcase of how to play competitive cricket fully in-keeping with the spirit of the game! In general, all the bowlers offered good control and they were well-supported by the fielders – but a few dropped catches towards the end of the innings allowed the visitors to add some crucial additional runs. Despite the poor start to the reply, Rashid batted with great maturity and was well-supported by Safi – with McCartney and Tahir nearly forcing a remarkable win.
All thoughts will now turn to T20 – in preparation for August’s Inter-Regional T20 Day.
Secretary Ann hargie has notified clubs involved in the U12 Group 1 Fixtures that West of Scotland have combined with Hillhead cc to form a combined team. This does not affect any fixtures as Hillhead cc will also play their stand alone U12 team.
Helensburgh CC have with apologies now withdrawn from the U12 Group 1 Fixtures from today.
WDJCU Secretary Notifies that WDJCU would like to reaffirm at present there is no change to regulations for Junior Cricket. All matches can still be played on week commencing Monday May17th 2021 as per the Scottish Government Guidance for sport for all age groups at U17s and below. All information can be found on Cricket Scotland website and has links to the most up to date information from Scottish government. Please see the attached link for guidance.
The Western Warriors Under 14s travelled to Largo CC for the final 40-over match in the inter-regional championship. After electing to bat first, a superb batting performance put the team in a very strong position. Openers Owen Gould and Bahadar Esakhiel (both Clydesdale CC) set the innings up perfectly, bringing up their 100 partnership in the 22nd over. Although both were to be dismissed in their attempts to up the scoring rate (Gould for a high quality 73 and Esakhiel, unfortunately, run out on 47), Lukas Fischer-Keogh (Greenock CC) and skipper Nikhil Koteeswaran (Clydesdale CC) both produced quick-fire, and innovative, innings to boost the total. Fischer-Keogh finished 26* and Koteeswaran 42*, as the Warriors posted 225 for 3.
The Warriors were gifted an early wicket, with a run out. However, the bowlers again struggled to cope with a right/left combination from opposition batting line-up – resulting in far, far, too many wides. Add in some lapses of concentration in the field, and a crucial 140-run partnership was built for the second wicket. There were some encouraging passages of play – Koteeswaran looked the most threatening of the Warriors attack (picking up a wicket which his spell deserved), Under 13 spinners Uzair Ahmad and Qasim Khan (both Ferguslie CC) continued to offer flight and turn and two tricky catches were held. However, 55 extras proved too much of a hinderance to the Warriors effort – with the Highlanders winning the match, and championship, with a couple of overs to spare.
Overall, the Warriors will be left with a big feeling of frustration from the 40-over championship – which has featured nineten different players over the four matches. Following the good win over the Knights in game one, the team worked themselves into good positions in the three matches which followed – but couldn’t find the consistency required to turn these into wins. Esakhiel (149 runs @ 37.25), Gould (146 runs @ 48.67) and Koteeswaran (104 runs @ 34.67) have all scored consistently, and Koteeswaran (seven wickets @ 16.71) and Ahmad (six wickets @ 27.50) led the way with the ball, with Andrew Harden (Clydesdale CC) also taking a “2-for”.
Although the 40-over championship campaign is now over, the Warriors still have plenty of cricket to play – two friendlies, the T20 championships and two Under 13 triangular series matches. These matches will provide plenty of opportunities for the squad to continue to develop their skills and try to find some additional consistency.
WDJCU Secretary Ann Hargie would like to remind clubs the WDJCU Kwik Cricket Festival is being hosted by Greenock CC on Sunday the 2nd of June, starting at 10am. To be added to the WDJCU Kwik Cricket WhatsApp message group please email consent from the club’s nominated person to the WDJCU Secretary.
WDJCU Secretary Ann Hargie writes, “The MB Stanger Trophy has been awarded annually since 2006, to a young club member of a WDJCU club who has made a significant contribution to their club’s advancement or well being, or has otherwise promoted the game of cricket in a meritorious way. The award, therefore, and crucially, is not awarded to the west district’s best player, but, rather, reflects a much wider contribution to cricket. Please send nominations and information on nominee applications to me by the deadline of 19 December.”
