Congratulations to Clydesdale CC who have won the inaugural Cricket Scotland west region Under 14 Indoor League, by defeating Glasgow Accies CC on finals day. With both clubs having emerged through the league stage with perfect “played four, won four” records, it seemed only fitting that a grand final would decide the winners – as well as allowing the only two unbeaten teams to play each other. Saturday the 23rd of March saw the finals take place, at Hutchesons’ Grammar School, in a “best of three” matches format.
Glasgow Accies CC won the toss and elected to field first in game one, with Clydesdale CC’s 83 for 3 being based around Nikhil Koteeswaran (22) and Ibrahim Faisal (21) both retiring – before the pressure for a fast start led to two run outs in the first over of the reply, with Glasgow Accies CC eventually finishing 16 all out.
Game two saw Clydesdale CC win the toss and elect to bat, with their 91 for 1 being set up by the top three batters (Koteeswaran, Sonny Cunningham and Owen Gould) all retiring – before a good all round bowling and fielding effort, including two smart stumpings from Gould, a great reaction catch from Bahadar Esakhiel and a rare indoor feat from Faisal (a wicket maiden), left Glasgow Accies CC 21 all out.
Although finals day had concluded with a two-nil win, both teams contested a third match. Again, Clydesdale CC batted first and they scored 99 for 6 – despite a good direct hit run from Humsa Anwar and a great catch from Zain Shaikh, but with Robin Ferguson top-scoring with 26*. In reply, Glasgow Accies CC batted for all six overs and finished 45 for 3.
