David Hinchliffe reports, “Western Warriors Under 16s beat Caledonian Highlanders Under 16 on July the 2nd at Titwood. Batting first, the Warriors made 258 for 6 with in-form Sturgess (Clydesdale CC) scoring 86 at the top of the order. Malik (Dumfries CC) provided stylish support with 55. Despite 55 from Robinson, the Warriors bowlers made short work of the Highlanders reply. Early wickets for Ahmad (Ferguslie CC) and Rao (Prestwick CC) set up Cairns (Clydesdale CC) who had the best figures with 4 for 21. Caledonian Highlanders made 101, with Warriors winning by 157 runs.
“In a match that was billed as the decider for the Under 16 championship, Eastern Knights came to Titwood to take on Western Warriors on the 8th of July. The Knights batted first, getting to 129 for 6 from 30 overs. A late order recovery saw the Knights at 175 for 8 from 40 overs, but the last two wickets stuck in to help the score to 212. Ahmad (Ferguslie CC) was the pick of the Warriors bowlers with 4 for 33.
“In reply, the Warriors chased well but could not build partnerships. The score was 150 for 6 after 29 overs with opener and captain Sturgess (Clydesdale) still leading the charge. Despite quick scoring stands of 23 and 24 with the tail, wickets kept falling. Sturgess was left stranded on 100 not out as he ran out of partners. Warriors were 19 runs short, leaving Eastern Knights in pole position in the championship.”
